 What is a Hi Utsuri Koi?

 Hi Utsuri is one of the three main Utsurimono varieties, a group of koi defined by their striking two-color patterns. In the case of Hi Utsuri: 

• Black (sumi) is the base color

• Overlaid red (hi) markings, the red deepens with maturity

• History & Background

  • Part of the Utsurimono group, which also includes:

    • Shiro Utsuri (black + white)

    • Ki Utsuri (black + yellow)

  • The Utsuri varieties are among the older koi types, dating back to the early 1900s in Japan.
