What is a Butterfly Yamato Nishiki?
-
Type: Longfin koi (also called “butterfly koi” or Hirenaga koi)
-
Group: Metallic koi — derived from a cross between Sanke (white, red, black) and Platinum Ogon koi
-
Key Features:
-
Body: Platinum-white metallic base with red (hi) and black (sumi) patterns—similar to a metallic Sanke
-
Fins: Long, flowing, translucent fins and tail that resemble butterfly wings
-
Shine: High luster, thanks to Hikari (metallic) genetics
Butterfly Yamato Nishiki = Sanke pattern + Platinum shine + Long fins
Graceful Motion & Flow
-
Their long fins trail through the water like silk, adding slow, elegant movement to the pond.
-
This creates a peaceful, meditative atmosphere, especially in still or slow-moving water.
2. Visual Focal Point
-
The metallic white body catches and reflects light, making them stand out even from a distance.
-
Bright hi (red) and sumi (black) markings add contrast and energy to the pond’s color palette.
-
The long fins differentiate them visually from standard koi, giving them a more “fantastical” or ornamental presence.
