What to look for!
Typically the Oranda has a short body, the depth of which is roughly two - thirds the length. The dorsal (top) fin should be single and high, with all other fins paired and long. The Caudal (tail) fins should be divided, With the trailing edge of the tail to be more like the square edge of the Moor and Veil tail.
In saying that there are many new varieties over the past years, pictured such as the orchid tail goldfish, its desirable for the tail to be ruffled, & generally having larger fuller heads. The rose tail oranda has a half moon tail shape with extra volume resulting in the overlapping on the tail like the petals on a rose. The crown oranda differs in the crown looking like a large high bubbles on the top of the head where as the body is much the same as the older style oranda. The Ingot oranda also known as the Yuan Bao one of our favorites bred each year has a short round body with a the wren covering the whole head. Windsor fish hatchery sells
